Pennsylvania lawmakers, community members and businesses and are paying more attention to the prospect of legalizing cannabis for adult use consumption in our state.

These conversations are happening as more states across the country legalize cannabis for medicinal or adult use. How does the media, tasked with informing residents from all backgrounds, play a role in covering this ongoing movement and creating an empowered, and engaged, community?

The Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists (PABJ), the oldest association for black journalists, is convening a day-long educational event to elevate the region’s understanding of cannabis, and the state of its current medical marijuana program and legalization

The event aims to assemble community members, experts, lawmakers and media professionals together to learn how we can better educate the public on cannabis and address the stigmas enforced from decades of of misinformation — information which led to the marginalization, incrimination and disenfranchisement of communities of color.

We look forward to offering a space for honest,  transparent and productive conversations as we underscore the need for more media coverage on this important issue.
